You Become What You Believe
Little girls with dreams become women with vision. This is the heart behind our annual Hurdles in Heels Vision Board Party. But what does that really mean? First things first, what do the words “dream” and “vision” mean?
According to the Oxford dictionary, a dream is “a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal.” Sounds simple enough, right? And vision, well vision is “the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.”
As little girls, most of us are taught that we can be whatever we want to be when we grow up. A professional athlete, a princess, or even the president of the United States. So we quickly start to dream about what our lives will be like when our “dreams come true.” 😍
As we begin to grow and mature into pre-teens, teens, and then women, we start to plan for the future… we start to have a vision! We plan what college, trade school, or job we want after high school. We plan where we want to live, with who, and for how long. We’re asked, “what’s your five-year plan?” You see, visions are dreams with action behind them! And a vision board is a tangible way to make short-term goals that we can keep right in front of us all year long.
“I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream.”
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Life happens! The world we had in our minds as little girls eventually changes as challenges and life’s hurdles come. But those dreams never leave us. So let these words from Oprah Winfrey stay with you this year:
“Create the highest grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.”
- Oprah Winfrey
