Holiday Stress Ain’t It

Holiday Stress Ain’t It

The holiday season is so freaking tricky. There’s a cultural norm turned instinct to buy all the things, there’s an expectation to create all the memories, there’s a social standard to maximize self-care, and let’s not forget about showing up to all the holiday events.

I’m exhausted from merely typing it out and that’s just from YOUR calendar, I didn’t even mention your daughter’s. :-)

With the many dynamics that make the holiday season so magical, I find my brain running a million miles per hour all the time. It feels a bit harder to find focus on damn near anything these days, and shutting down at night has become an Olympic-paced marathon. It’s bad.

I’m adamant about creating the life I desire and the components above are certainly a part of that equation, especially during the holidays. You know what’s not a part of the equation? The mental weight that comes with it. I’m not here for it, and won’t willingly tolerate it, therefore I’ve been on a hunt to figure this ish out.

I’ve never cussed in a blog before, so you know it’s real. LOL.

One thing I’ve found so helpful is writing immediately before I go to bed. It feels like a brain dump so that I can wind down. No, not in the notes section of my phone, because that’s a quick social media/email catch-up, and an hour later you’re still awake TRAP.

I’m talking about old fashioned pen and paper writing. There are 3 things I’ve been writing in my Dollar Tree journal…

  1. “Today I’m proud of you for_____”

  2. Something I’m grateful for from today

  3. Things I need to action tomorrow

Writing these things down has been a game changer for me, and hopefully, it may be helpful to you too. The thing I love about navigating this thing called life is that we have the wheel to direct ourselves wherever and however we desire. In this season for me, it means trying different things to accomplish my desired outcome. What’s your desired outcome and what are you willing to do to get there?
